My Starting Point

My Starting Point

My name is Robin and this is my Starting Point Story:

Before I began Starting Point, I was returning to my faith after I lost my way for long period of time. I wanted to learn more about what it meant to have a real personal relationship with Christ, and about how to apply the scriptures to my daily life.

I had heard about Starting Point and thought maybe I should try it out. I was pretty nervous to join the group at first. I really didn’t know what to expect. I was, however, very surprised at how well our group bonded over the 10 weeks. It was an amazing feeling to experience community with other people on the same journey.

For me, Starting Point was the beginning of the renewal of my faith and a real understanding of what it means to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

By sharing this experience with a group of other people who were all in different places along their journey with Christ, I was able to benefit from listening to the types of questions other people had.  The fact that someone in the group was always able to share a reference in the scripture that would help all of us develop a deeper understanding of where we could turn to look for answers to our questions was great.

No questions is off limits. I never once felt as if I was being judged by any question that I posed to the group.   If I had not jointed Starting Point, I don’t know that I would have grown in my faith journey as much as I have.  Starting Point helped me get my faith relationship back on track and helped prepare me for my recent baptism.

The absolute best thing about Starting Point is the relationships that you form with the people in your group.  Sharing details about your faith journey – no matter where you are in that journey – with others who are there to encourage you, support you, and pray for you in a non-threatening, non-judgmental environment is an incredibly humbling experience.  It is also a powerful motivator for rapid and continued spiritual growth.

For anyone considering joining or unsure if it is the right fit, I would say to absolutely join!  It will be one of the best things you can ever do for yourself.  It could be a life-changing experience for you that you do not want to miss!

With a church as large as Grace, we need the support and encouragement of others who are seeking, starting, or returning to their faith.  God never meant for us to do this alone.  Joining a Starting Point group provides you with the opportunity to ask questions, hear different answers and viewpoints, receive encouragement, encourage others, and build relationship with others.

The book and videos we used were fantastic learning materials. The group leaders are really there to facilitate the discussion. They are not expected to have all the answers.  It was comforting to know that even the most seasoned Christians struggle with the some of the same issues that newcomers do.

I’m so thankful that I was able to join Starting Point when I did.  This experience was probably one of the most important decisions I have ever made.   I’m so blessed to have been able to continue on my journey with many people from my Starting Point group in our now long term Grace Group!
