In October of 2017 I traveled to Uganda for the second time to work side-by-side with AOET personnel at their Bugembe Medical Clinic and in remote villages that have very limited access to health care.
My story resonates with the theme, “It Takes All of Us!” For years, whenever we, as the church body, prayed over a departing medical team, I wished that I had the training and credentials to participate. I did not know why I had these longings, but they were genuine and persistent.
When I heard about an informational meeting for such trips here at Grace, I decided to attend. I was forthright with what I saw as my limitations, but was asked what I did for a living. Based on my answer, I was told that there was a definite need for logistical support, which aligns with my day job and my gifts. I have since participated in five overseas medical missions. I help plan and organize the pharmacy, transport medicines and supplies, then set up and break down wherever we are sent. I count pills, filling scrips. I pray for healing of the person that will receive the medicine. I love every moment and consider serving in this way an incredible privilege and blessing!
Sometimes, God has unique ways of validating our efforts with what I refer to as “Divine Moments” – occasions when He uses us to meet an urgent and immediate need that I believe He prepared for us before we ever left our comfortable homes. The doctors, nurses and medicines are in the right place at the precise time to make an immediate and significant difference! To God be the glory!
If you sense a desire to participate in any capacity on a Beyond mission, I urge you to pray about it and if confirmed, to respond to that calling. You will be amazed at what God has planned for you! I know that I was.
