Haley’s Compassion Experience

Haley’s Compassion Experience

If you would have told me five years ago that walking through a trailer in a parking lot in central Maryland would change my life, I would not have believed you. But, it is true. Five years ago, my family and I were given the opportunity to partake in the Compassion Experience, a mobile trailer that is designed to imitate the home and life of a child living in poverty in a developing country, and it truly changed my life.

The trailer is a unique opportunity because it allows you to walk through the life of a child and physically see the struggles they face each day without actually seeing them in person. Walking through the trailer was a very humbling experience. My heart was flooded with many different emotions as I thought of children living in such difficult conditions.

Until the day I walked through the experience and saw with my own eyes the clothing children in poverty wear and the little food they are able to afford, I had never realized the level of hardship they face. But, through the experience, my eyes were opened to the impact that sponsorship can have on a child and how much their lives are truly transformed.

Sponsorship allows a child to attend school, receive food, medical care, water, and most importantly, hear the gospel. Being sponsored truly transforms a child’s life.

In addition to walking through the day of child, the Compassion Experience offered my family and I much more. Because of the Compassion Experience and the impact it had, my family was prompted to start sponsoring a child. The seventh member of our family is named Luis Alonso Martinez and he lives in El Salvador. Although Luis lives 3,300 miles away, he is still a very big part of our lives. Last summer, my mom and I had the opportunity to go visit Luis and see his home and school. Now, our family still stays in touch with him through letters and pictures we send back and forth. Sponsoring Luis and building a relationship with him has truly transformed my life, and my family as well.

The Compassion Experience is something that you don’t want to miss because it will impact you in ways you can’t even imagine!
