Once Upon A Parable… The Good Samaritan. The Prodigal Son. Even in our post-Christian culture, most people at least recognize the titles. It’s amazing to think how Jesus’ parables have made a lasting impact on our culture. The brilliance of parables is that Jesus takes normal details from our human experience, and weaves them into a story, illustration, or analogy that leaves us wondering about who God is and who we are. We are often caught off-guard as the truths of God’s kingdom crash into our earthly existence! I think that’s what makes parables both hard to understand and also hard to forget.
I’m really excited to share with you what I’m learning about Jesus’ parables. Over the next five weeks, Rich and I will be unpacking how parables work and even more importantly, why Jesus spoke through them. We’ve picked a sample size of the many parables Jesus taught. These are parables that have resonated with us.
- A Parable of the Sower
- A Parable of the Wicked Tenants
- A Parable of the Worth of the Kingdom
- A Parable on Prayer
- A Parable on Watching and Waiting
My hope is that God will bring these kingdom illustrations to life for us and that as a result we will respond with greater faith and obedience. See you this weekend!
